Cook With Us Launch Event & Recipe

Yesterday, Seeds Feeds celebrated our new name, new website, new logo, and more with the community! We got online with our neighbors and talked about all the wonderful things that Seeds Feeds has been up to and plans on doing. We also cooked a vegetable barley stew and were able to distribute 12 bags of ingredients for people, as well as share the ingredient list with others in order to all cook together.

Our founder, Julie Rappaport, was able to walk us threw what she calls her “fridge clean out stew”, where one can substitute ingredients easily and exact measurements don’t matter.

But I will share our recipe with you all now!

Ingredients:
16oz Carrots
1/2 Cabbage
2 cups chopped Kale
1.5 lbs fingerling or baby potatoes
1 small bag of pearl onions (or frozen peeled ones)
3-32oz cartons of Vegetable Stock (can use any type of stock)
1 box barley
chicken - skin on or off, thighs and legs or whatever you prefer
Braggs Liquid Aminos (to taste)

1. Start with putting your vegetable stock in a large pot and bring to a boil
2. If your chicken is boneless, you can cut into cubes and throw into the soup, it is boned, leave full
3. Clean and cut your potatoes into pieces that are a good size for you to eat and drop into the broth
4. Clean and add your carrots (big ones can be cut into large chunks or put in whole, baby carrots or shredded can be put in whole)
5. Cut up your cabbage and put in broth
6.Peek your pearl onions (or buy frozen ones that are peeled) by taking your knife and sticking it in about 3/4 of the way into the onion right above the root, and peeling the outside. You can stick these in whole or cut in half
7. De-stalk your Kale and cut into large or smaller pieces
8. Add Braggs or soy sauce to taste
9. Bring to a boil again
10. Add Barley (about 1-2 cups per the box)
11. Stir occasionally while letting cook for 45 minutes
12. Taste the barley to see when it is finished
Enjoy!

Seeds Feeds plans on having more online cooking sessions soon! So stay tuned!
