welcome to aquila schoolyard Urban farm

This farm is brought to you by Seeds Feeds, HDR Foundation & the SLP School District

About aquila Schoolyard Garden:

As the largest of the Seeds Feeds gardens, Aquila is home to a wide variety of plants, from native pollinators to herbs to tomatoes and squashes.

The crops are grown in a variety of beds, such as raised wooden boxes and rock spirals, and are connected by a walking path that invites community members to reflect the many cultures and individuals that are part of the broader Aquila School Community.

It’s Intent is to:

  • EDUCATE the Aquila Community & Neighborhood how to grow Fresh Organic Food

  • to provide Food & EMPOWER Neighbors in Need,

  • AND to ENGAGE and Create Community Gathering Space

  • Aquila has the largest variety of food growing out of all of our community gardens.

  • Aquila’s garden is currently being used for Classroom education! Students have spent time in the Garden learning about what’s growing, how to care for it, how to cook it and the importance of growing food for our community members in need.

  • We use trellises on some of the gardens to increase our vertical growing space. The beds with trellises have been planted with climbing plants like cucumbers and squash.

  • In 2023, Aquila Community Members took over the management of the site, as was the end goal for Seeds Feeds Agreement with the District!

  • CONTACT THE AQUILA PTO TO GET INVOLVED!!

Depending on the herbs location in the spiral it will receive varying levels of water, sun and shade. Our herb spirals contain chamomile, rosemary, cilantro, dill, parsley, organo, and basil.
